Trophies & Awards

THE CENTRE’S TROPHY SELECTION METHOD
Our own competition events culminate in recognition by way of trophies for performance during the year as well as weekly awards. To be eligible for the following awards all athletes must be committed participants throughout the whole season.

AGE CHAMPION AND RUNNER‑UP
These awards go to an age champion and runner-up in each age group for both boys and girls. The presentation is to the athlete with the highest aggregate points taken over THE WHOLE SEASON. Points are performance and attendance based. To be eligible for a championship or runner up trophy, there must be a minimum of 5 athletes in the age group. If between 5 and 10 athletes, there will also be an encouragement award. If there are less than 5 athletes, a championship and encouragement award will be issued.

HEALTHWAY SHIELDS
These awards go to one boy and one girl (IN ANY AGE GROUP). The presentation is to the boy and girl with the highest aggregate points score as above divided by the TOTAL number of events in their age group.

STATE CHAMPIONSHIP ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
These awards go to one boy and one girl from each of the following groups: U10 to U12 and U13 to U17. The awards are decided by the best performances at the State Championships held at the end of the season. Performances are calculated by allocating 3 points for a gold medal, 2 points for silver, 1 point for bronze and 2 points for a state record (new or equal). If points are still equal, the award is determined by the highest number of gold medals. If, at this point, the results are still eual the best performances outside of the medals will determine the winner. This rewards high performance at the national standard level over a range of events.

IMPROVEMENT AWARDS
These awards go to one boy and one girl from each of the following groups: U7 to U9, U10 to U12, U13 to U15, and U16 to U17 who has shown particular improvement in a range of events over the whole season - based on number of Personal Bests. Awarding of improvement awards will be at the discretion of the committee if there are less than 5 athletes in the age category. Age champions and runner-ups are ineligible.

PHIL SMITH WALK TROPHIES
These awards go to one boy and one girl from across all walk events that have shown consistent performance or improvement during the season - may be based on number of Personal Bests. To be eligible walkers must complete at least 50% of season walks.

COACHES AWARDS
These awards are by the Centre Coaches to athletes that demonstrate commitment to training and support of the Centres training activities and support to other athletes during the season.

The Committee reserves the right to not award all of the Trophies when there are limited numbers of Athletes in an age group. Should any athlete be reported to the committee (in writing) for behaviour not becoming of an athlete, the committee reserves the right to withdraw that athlete from nomination of a trophy or awards. The committee’s decision is final. Additional awards in an age group are also at the discretion of the Committee.
